Workshop Description

This collaborative workshop offers attendees an opportunity to explore models and best practices in institutional planning and support for digital scholarship, through a mixture of case studies, working group sessions, and presentations. It is designed both for those who are starting a planning process and also for those seeking to move an existing program further along its path.

This workshop will equip participants to develop a plan for initiating or expanding a digital scholarship program or center, and to work productively with faculty, administrators, and other stakeholders in strategic discussions. Participants will have an opportunity to workshop specific ideas, develop action items, and get feedback from peers whose institutions are at various stages in developing and offering digital scholarship services.
 

Participants will gain knowledge of:

  • Developing strategies for setting priorities
  • Establishing an organizational culture and articulating values
  • Crafting an organizational model for the structure, administration, and sustainability of the center
  • Developing a sustainable funding model
  • Building cohesive services within the library and across campus
  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Encouraging partnerships and collaborations

Participants:

This workshop is designed to help teams and individuals charged with developing and implementing digital scholarship programs, including:

  • Library administrators
  • Partners from academic administration, information technology, and other relevant campus units
  • Librarians who will have a role in digital scholarship
  • Faculty who are involved in the planning, leadership, or activities of digital scholarship centers
  • Graduate students who are interested in a career in digital scholarship centers

This workshop is a joint effort of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Northeastern University Library. The committee members are:
