Julia presented a talk on “Challenges of Designing for Diversity” at the Arte Público Press/Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage Speaker Series and Workshops on Digital Humanities and Social Justice, on November 29, 2018.
Her abstract can be found online: “The digital humanities toolset is a resistant element in the field’s intensified focus on social justice. Reflecting on Northeastern University’s recent “Design for Diversity” initiative, this talk will explore some of the most challenging and invisibly influential parts of that toolset: the infrastructural space occupied by repositories, content management systems, and information standards. How can our tools—and the human systems through which they are developed and used—enact a more open and equitable version of cultural information management for digital scholarship?”
Many thanks to the Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage for putting the talk online!
